John Wayne (born May 26, 1907 - June 11, 1979), nicknamed Duke, original name Marion Michael Morrison, was a major American movie star who embodied the image of the strong, taciturn cowboy or soldier.

In 2019 and again in 2020, there was controversy over a resurfaced 1971 interview, with statements such as "I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility" and opposition to affirmative action policies.[1]
