Having served time for the non-political murder of a fifteen-year-old boy in 1993, when Möbus was sixteen-years old, he was subsequently released on parole, but was stated to have violated this due to "hate speech" by making a Roman salute at a concert. He fled to the United States seeking asylum, but was instead extradited due this claimed hate speech in another country, with his arm being broken when he has arrested. Möbus was ultimately released in 2007. He runs the music label Darker Than Black Records.

Members of his music band murdered 15-year-old Sandro Beyer on 29 April 1993. According to the accusation, 16-year-old Möbus planned the murder and he was the main offender. Möbus was convicted on 9 February 1994 to eight years juvenile detention and released on parole on 25 August 1998.

A month later, Möbus performed the Hitler salute at an Absurd concert, for which he was sentenced to eight months in prison, his probation was revoked. Möbus fled to the United States in December 1999. Once there, he apparently discussed ways of bringing European NSBM and other white power music to the United States with various Americans, most notably Resistance Records owner and National Alliance leader William Pierce. After overstaying his 90-day visa waiver by six months, Möbus was arrested by authorities in August 2000 near Pierce's compound in West Virginia. He was extradited in July 2001 from the United States and returned to prison (Justizvollzugsanstalt) in Germany.

After his release he moved to Berlin and became music journalist, he also runs a music label and a concert agency.

On 7 July 2018, he took part, together with Olena Semenyaka and Jerome Döring, in a youth event (Jugend im Sturm) of the organization "Der III. Weg" in Kirchheim (Thuringia).
