Friedrich "Fritz" Otto Hugo Mantey, since 1875 von Mantey (5 March 1872 – 10 October 1953), was a German officer of the Prussian Army, the Imperial German Army and the Wehrmacht, finally Major General at disposal (z. V.) of the Heer in World War I.

  • 24 March 1890 Joined the Guard Grenadier Regiment "Kaiser Franz" No. 2 in Berlin
  • 1 October 1894 Battalion Adjutant Fusilier, then IV., then I. Battalion
  • 1 October 1898 Assigned to the Prussian War Academy
  • 3 July 1900 Left the army and joined the I. Seebataillon in Kiel
    • it is not known, if he actually traveled with the Marine Infantry to China (Boxer War) or if he stayed in Kiel with the new I. Replacement Battalion
  • 18 January 1901 Re-enlisted in the Anhalt Infantry Regiment No. 93 in Dessau
  • 28 October 1902 Commanded to the General Staff.

Family

Descent

Friedrich was the son of General of the Infantry Johannes Eberhard von Mantey (1835–1902) and his wife (∞ 1867) Ella Friederike Therese, née Cranz (1845–1926). He had four siblings, one of them were Vice Admiral Eberhard Friedrich Wilhelm von Mantey. His father was elevated to hereditary Prussian nobility by Kaiser Wilhelm I on 18 September 1875.

Marriage

On 10 March 1902 in Knorrendorf, 1st Lieutenant von Mantey married his fiancée Eleonore Ursula Auguste Karoline Elisabeth von Zülow (b. 10 July 1881 in Knorrendorf).[2] They would have three daughters, including twins:[3][4]

  • Elisabeth Charlotte "Lise-Lotte" (b. 21 March 1904 in Berlin); ∞ 1927 2nd Lieutenant (ret.) Werner Freiherr von Rotenhan, 4 children, among them Eleonore Eva von Rotenhan
  • Eva Cäcilie (b. 21 March 1904 in Berlin); ∞ 1929 Lord of the Manor (Nikolausdorf) and Knight of St. John Eberhard von Freier
