War on Terror
The War on Terror, also known as the Global War on Terrorism, is a term for the international military campaign(s) launched by the United States government after the September 11 attacks, initially focused on al-Qaeda. It was first used by U.S. President George W. Bush, but never used as a formal designation of U.S. operations in internal government documentation. There has been various criticisms against the term, as well as against aspects of the campaign itself and argued exploitation for other purposes.
