Philip II (1165 - 1223), also known as Philip Augustus, was King of France (reigned 1180–1223), the first of the Capetian dynasty. He gradually reconquered the French territories held by the kings of England and also elsewhere expanded the royal territories. He was a participant in the Third Crusade.
