Gauleitung-USA or Gau-USA was the political designation for NSDAP activities in the United States.

History

This was an attempt by party leaders in Germany to coordinate National Socialist supporters and Hitler enthusiasts into an effective outreach to the German-American community which was seen lacking in the existing Teutonia Association. Although never an officially recognized organization, Gau-USA's hand-picked leader was Paul Manger, a NSDAP party member and immigrant from Germany. Most of his attempts at organizing was in the Yorkville section of New York among other German-Americans, many who were unemployed.[1]

Manger's failed leadership resulted in the termination of the Gau-USA program and its replacement with American Edwin Emerson, Jr. who organized the Society of American Friends of Germany which was headquartered in the German consulate in New York.
