Children are humans from the time of birth until the age of majority on the threshold of legal adulthood as recognized or declared in law. It is the moment when a person ceases to be considered a minor, and assumes legal control over their person, actions, and decisions, thus terminating the control and legal responsibilities of their parents or guardian over them. In context to the relationship to parents, a child is a son or daughter of any age and a member of a family. Child may also describe the metaphorical relationship with an authority figure, or signify group membership in a clan, tribe, or religion. "Youth" is the often used term for the period between childhood and adult age, a period of transition from the dependence of childhood to adulthood's independence.
