Junkers Ju 87
The Junkers Ju 87 or Stuka (from Sturzkampfflugzeug, "dive fighter") was a two-man (pilot and rear gunner) dive bomber that was in operation from 1937 until the end of World War II. The Stuka was used in various operations, including the 1937 Spanish Civil War as well as Poland, Norway, France, North Africa, the Battle of Britain and saw heavy action serving as the primary fighter plane in the Eastern Front.
There were several designs of the Junkers Ju 87, such as:
- JU 87A
- JU 87B
- JU 87D
- JU 87G
The German Luftwaffe also expanded the design and introduced the concept into its Heavy Bomber aircrafts with the model Junker Ju 88. Currently there are only 2 intact Stukas surviving today with several other wreaks on display in various museums.
