Wilhelm Theodor Roscher (6 June 1818 – 22 November 1893) was a German jurist, judge and parliamentarian.

Life

  • 1837 Abitur, then law studies in Göttingen, Jena and Heidelberg
    • 1838 Member of the Corps Bremensia in Göttingen (a student fraternity with mandatory academic fencing from 1812 to 1971)
  • 1842 Official auditor examination, then auditor (Amtsauditor) in hanover
  • 1845 Second state law examination, then official assessor
  • 1848 Member of the Celle Justice Office
  • 1852 Higher Court Assessor (Obergerichtsassessor); Auxiliary employee, soon afterwards consultant (Referent) in the Hanover Ministry of Justice
  • 1858 Higher Court Council (Obergerichtsrat)
  • 1860 Senior Appeal Courts Council (Oberappellationsrat) in Celle
  • 1875 President / Director of the Celle Higher Court (Obergerichtspräsident / Obergerichtsdirektor)

Politician

Roscher was a member of the Second Chamber of the Assembly of the Estates of the Kingdom of Hanover from 1864 to 1865. From 1867 to 1869, he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives (MdPrA) for the Hanover 35 constituency (Verden) and from 1870 to 1873 for the Hanover 5 constituency (Lingen). He belonged to the National Liberal Party faction. In 1872 and 1873, he was a member of the Judicial Commission.

Alpine Association

On 22 November 1889, 20 years after the founding of the German and Austrian Alpine Association, the founding meeting of the Göttingen section of the German and Austrian Alpine Association took place in the "Göttinger Union" with the participation of external Alpine Association members, namely the following gentlemen: District Court President Privy Chief Justice Dr. Wilhelm Roscher and lawyer Dr. Hermann Eckels, both from Hanover, privateer Woldemar von Denffer and Prof. Dr. Ms. Julius Rosenbach, both from Heidelberg, Lieutenant Colonel Carl Pohl from Coburg and Prof. Dr. Alois Brandl from Prague. After the chairman Dr. Roscher died on 22 November 1893, Prof. Dr. Johannes Orth was elected as his successor.[1]

Family

Wilhelm Theodor Roscher was the son of the Elbe customs director Theodor Gottfried Roscher (1783–1858) and his wife (∞ 14 June 1812) Anna Margarethe "Annette" Katharine, née Manecke (1790–1861).[2] He had five siblings, among them Johann Heinrich Hermann Roscher (1825–1894), also a member of the Corps Bremensia, jurist, judge and parliamentarian (MdPrA) of the National Liberal Party (Nationalliberale Partei, NLP).

Marriage

On 7 September 1852 in Lewe near Liebenburg (Harz), Roscher married his fiancée Henriette Victorine Elisabeth Schaumann (1826–1880) with whom he would have eight children (for names, see picture in Infobox) between 1853 and 1865. His oldest son was Dr. jur. Friedrich Wilhelm Theodor Roscher (b. 7 November 1853). His daughter Marie Sophie Mathilde married Caspar Hinrich Otto Ulex, their son was Wehrmacht General Wilhelm Theodor Ulex. Another daughter, Emilie Adolfine Elisabeth, married architect Friedrich Georg Heinrich Ulex.
