History
Distribution
35,000 paper copies were printed monthly by the Deutsche Stimme Verlag. 10,000 were mailed to paying subscribers, 6,000 per month are typically sold individually at street-kiosks, bookstores, and train-stations. The rest were distributed for free, to promote the NPD and its politics. Old articles are archived on the newspaper's website.
The paper's fortunes had fallen and risen with those of the NPD. The paper was founded after the NPD's largest successes in the late 1960s. By 1998, only 8,000 copies a month were printed. This rise to 35,000 print copies by 2010 (not counting exposure on the Internet) mirrored the short-lived revival of the NPD.
Nationalist ideology
"Germany Must Become German Again!" was the title a Deutsche Stimme lead articles in 2002. This summarizes the ideological orientation of the paper. In a basic sense it reflects the ideology of the NPD and Die Heimat, with leeway given to individual correspondents.
Other activities
A mail-order business has been attached to the newspaper for several years, offering a comprehensive selection of goods: From political stickers all the way to perfume. T-shirts, CDs, videos, and so on are sold to readers. Once a year, the newspaper holds the "Pressefest der Deutschen Stimme", one of the largest meetings of German nationalists.
Magazine (2020)
Since April 2020, DS has been a non-partisan magazine of high journalistic and design quality and appears to have achieved the desired independence from the NPD, which had already been evident in recent years. In the new magazine, party affiliation to NPD or Die Heimat is only highlighted to a limited extent, focusing rather on European politics, Identitarian Movement, mass immigration, Antifa terror, foreigner crimes and affiliated topics.
Aufgewacht!
"Aufgewacht!" was founded in the early summer of 2022 as "The political magazine for Saxony", as of 2024 "Magazine of the Resistance". With the bi-monthly magazine Aufgewacht!, the "Free Saxons" party, founded in February 2021, launched its own print publication. The editorial team and regular authors were Jochen Stappenbeck (editor-in-chief and texts), Robert Andres (managing director), Martin Kohlmann (party chairman), Michael Brück and Arne Schimmer.
Aufgewacht – Die Deutsche Stimme
Since March 2025, the two magazines "Aufgewacht!" and "Deutsche Stimme" have been published as a joint monthly magazine entitled "Aufgewacht – Die Deutsche Stimme".
