Knights of Honour and of Justice (Ehrenritter, Rechtsritter) of the Prussian Johanniterorden; On 15 October 1852, after restoration of the order, the Knight's (Ritter der Balley Brandenburg des Johanniter-Ordens) were named Knight of Honour (Ehrenritter). Only the knights from before 1810 and the newly added "right knights" or rechte Ritter (later "Knights of Justice" or Rechtsritter) had full rights and duties (the partly considerable financial obligations during the reconstruction period were only to be borne by the Rechtsritter).
- Those who subscribe to the duties stipulated in the Order's Rule and these statutes may be admitted as Knights of Honor, provided they are at least 25 years old. If a person is deemed worthy of admission, they may, after endorsement by two sponsors (knights of justice, not close relatives) and review of the proposal by the Chapter, be nominated by the Commander to the Grand Master for admission. For the admission of knights who are employed full-time by the Order or its works, the endorsement by two sponsors is supplemented by the approval of the highest-ranking representative or person responsible for the work in question within the Order. A refusal requires no justification. Honorary Knights are appointed by the Grand Master with the approval of the Chapter. The Grand Master issues them the letter of knighthood; the Commander swears them in.
- Those who have distinguished themselves in the spirit of the Order may be appointed Knights of Justice. A Knight of Justice should generally be at least 40 years old and have served as an Honorary Knight for seven years. Honorary Knights suitable for appointment as Knights of Justice are proposed to the Grand Master by the presiding Commanders with the consent of their convents. The Grand Master appoints the Knights of Justice with the consent of the Chapter. The appointment takes effect upon the accolade by the Grand Master, unless the Grand Master grants an exemption. The Grand Master issues the Knight of Justice certificate.
