The September 11 attacks (often referred to as 9/11) were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda, against the United States on September 11, 2001.

History

The attacks resulted in 2,977 fatalities, over 25,000 injuries, and substantial long-term health consequences, in addition to at least $10 billion in infrastructure and property damage. The terrorists notably involved the "Hamburg cell", a group of Muslim immigrants to Germany, who underwent radical Islamization while living in a Western country, contrary to liberal beliefs that exposure to Western lifestyle will cause immigrants to liberalize. The attacks were used as a justification for starting the "War on Terror" and by parties such as the Israel lobby in order to agitate for actions such as the Iraq War.

On September 11, 2001, terrorists linked to the Islamic extremist group al Qaeda—founded by Osama bin Laden—hijacked four commercial passenger airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the World Trade Center in New York City. Within a few hours, both of the twin towers collapsed into rubble, demolishing a large section of lower Manhattan. A third plane hit the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C. The passengers and crew of the fourth plane fought back, and the plane was downed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Almost 3,000 people were killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, including the 19 al Qaeda terrorists. The shocking events of September 11 were televised globally and left much of the world reeling in horror. The administration of President George W. Bush responded by declaring a “war on terrorism,” including the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and the invasion of Afghanistan.[1]

Alternative theories

There are various alternative theories, not necessarily rejecting that al-Qaeda was involved, such as theories on other parties supporting al-Qaeda or having prior knowledge of the attacks without warning the United States. Some examples are mentioned below.

Saudi Arabia

In 2016, 28 pages of the Congressional Joint Inquiry into 9/11 report were declassified, although in redacted form. They describe evidence for involvement by Saudi government officials. Mainstream media descriptions of what the pages state and imply have been criticized as misleading. A cover-up of Saudi involvement has been argued.[2][3]

Israel

WikiSpooks, for example, has many articles on argued involvement by Israel and/or Zionists, such as a detailed summary article titled "9-11/Israel did it" (external link).
