William Edward Burghardt Du Bois (1868 – 1963) was a Black sociologist, historian, writer, pro-Black activist, and a co-founder of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. In the later years of his life, he became disillusioned with capitalism and became pro-Communist, admiring Stalin. After his first wife died, he married Shirley Graham, a Communist.
