Posse Comitatus (movement)
The Posse Comitatus (Latin, "force of the county") is or was a stated loosely organized anti-governmental / anti-tax / libertarian movement in the United States, starting in the late 1960s.
Leftist Wikipedia alleges various associations by some claimed members, such as to survivalism, militias, anti-Semitism, "conspiracy theories", Christian Identity, the "far right", and/or "paper terrorism" that harass opponents with frivolous legal actions.
A stated related or continuation movement is the stated "sovereign citizen" movement. Some Black groups are stated to have adopted sovereign citizen beliefs. In 2010, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) alleged that approximately 100,000 Americans were "hard-core sovereign believers" with another 200,000 "just starting out by testing sovereign techniques for resisting everything from speeding tickets to drug charges", possibly indicating an alleged need to provide very large sums of money to the SPLC.
