  • Alfred Hans Petri (1877–1945), German officer, knight of the Pour le Mérite and General of the Infantry in WWII
  • Elfride Petri (1893–1992), German economist and wife of Martin Heidegger
  • Gustav Petri (1888–1945), German officer as well as veteran of WWI and WWII, finally colonel of the Wehrmacht
  • Isaak Jacob von Petri (1705–1776), German engineer, cartographer and architect
  • Leo Petri (1876–1961), German officer and SS-Gruppenführer
  • Oskar Wilhelm Ritter von Petri (1860–1944), German engineer and businessman, holder of the Goethe Medal for Art and Science
  • Richard Julius Petri (1852–1911), German bacteriologist; credited with inventing the Petri dish while working as assistant to Robert Koch
