Notre-Dame Cathedral in Saigon

Ho Chi Minh City is in Vietnam. It was formerly Saigon and is still commonly known as that. It had been the second city, after Hanoi, of French Indo-China. Saigon was the capital of Vietnam from 1887 to 1902 and again from 1945 to 1954. Following the departure of France from Indo-China in 1955, the United States of America took over the role of defeating the communist insurgents in Vietnam, in which they failed ignominiously.

It is today the largest city in Vietnam.
