Flower War medals
Flower War medals (German: Blumenkrieg-Medaillen) refers to the three medals commemorating the reunification of Austria (Anschluss), the Sudetenland and the Memelland with the German Reich in 1938 and 1939.
History
The term "Flower Wars" stems from the fact that the German troops were not welcomed with weapons, neither with active nor passive resistance, but with unimaginable happiness as well as tons of tears and flowers.
All three medals have a common obverse designed by Professor Richard Klein (1890–1967), Director of the Munich School of Applied Arts and a favoured artist of the Nazi establishment. A campaign streamer (Fahnenband) in the colours of the appropriate medal ribbon could be attached to the flag (Truppenfahne) of those regiments that had taken part in these joyful accessions.
Medals
The medals are:
- Medal to Commemorate the 13 March 1938 (Anschluss Medal)
- Medal to Commemorate the 1 October 1938 (Sudetenland Medal)
- Medal to Commemorate the Homecoming of the Memelland (Memel Medal)
