Durban
Durban (Zulu: eThekwini, from itheku meaning "bay/lagoon") is the largest city in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal.
The Durban Metropolitan Area's population ranks third in South Africa, at 4.3 million[1], after Johannesburg and Cape Town.
Durban is famous for being the busiest port in South Africa, the second most important manufacturing hub in South Africa after Johannesburg, and a major tourist destination because of its warm climate and extensive beaches. Durban forms part of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, with a population of almost 3.5 million[2], making the combined municipality one of the biggest cities on the Indian Ocean coast of the African continent. The Metropolitan land area of 2292 km² is comparatively larger than that of other South African cities, resulting in a somewhat lower population density of 1513 /km².[3]
The city was 51.1% Black, 24.0% Indian, 15.3% White, 8.6% Coloured, and 0.9% Other in 2011.[4]
