Carpetbagger
Carpetbagger is a derogatory term in the United States for an individual who during the Reconstruction era moved from the North to the South and accused of exploitation. The term derives from carpetbag, a satchel, implying a person arriving with no more than he could carry, but was applied later to newcomers in general accused of exploitation, sometimes in association with former slaves and/or scalawags.
