Western Hemisphere Committee Against Communism also the Western Hemisphere Defense Committee was founded May 17, 1946 by Larry Asman in Detroit, Michigan under the direction of Gerald L. K. Smith. Smith’s associates Don Lohbeck and Lawrence Reilly participated in the formation of the group. The purpose of the committee was to represent “the South American republics, Mexico, the United States and Canada for the purpose of fighting Communism.”[1]
The Hon. Norman Jaques of Canada was associated with this group.
