Second Spanish Republic
The Second Spanish Republic was the republican government existing in Spain from 1931, after the deposition of Alfonso XIII, to 1939, when it lost the Spanish Civil War. Certain parts of it survived in exile, and it had an embassy in Mexico City, until dissolving after Franco's death.
Certain leftists, especially social anarchists, tend to view Second Spanish Republic or some parts of it, especially the social anarchist parts, as having been a leftist utopia. Regarding criticisms of such views, see the article on the Spanish Civil War, in particular the sections on "The "Republican" side as a defender of liberal democracy" and "Red and white repressions".
