Opium Wars
The Opium Wars were two wars:
- the First Opium War, during 1839–1842, involving China vs. the United Kingdom
- the Second Opium War, during 1856–1860, involving China vs. France and the United Kingdom
The wars notably involved forcing China to accept importation of highly addictive opium but also other issues.
A less often mentioned aspect is the involvement of the Jewish Sassoon family in the opium trade and the wars. See the "External links" section.
