List of Roman Emperors
A list of Roman Emperors may be problematic for various reasons, such as the early emperors pretending that the Roman Republic still exited and therefore avoiding monarchical titles, the presence of "usurpers" not considered legitimate, the presence of individuals who may be considered emperors despite having no real power and merely being puppets for others, the presence of individuals such as Sulla and Julius Caesar who during the late republic briefly had real autocratic powers but who are usually not counted as emperors, and the division of the Roman Empire into Eastern and Western parts, with the Eastern part continuing as the Byzantine Empire. There are also claims of continuing the Roman Empire, such as by the Holy Roman Empire.
