The Hellenistic period or the Hellenistic age, in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East, is traditionally the time period between the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC and the conquest of the last state in the Mediterranean created by his successors, Ptolemaic Egypt, by Ancient Rome in 30 BC.

There was a spread of Greek (Hellenic) culture, the mixture of Ancient Greeks with other populations, and more generally a mixture of Greek and Eastern elements.
