Hakuun Yasutani

Hakuun Yasutani (1885 - 1973) was the founder of the Sanbo Kyodan organization of Japanese Zen Buddhism.

Hakuun Yasutani was also a Japanese nationalist. The book Zen at War (1997) was critical of stated Zen Buddhist support, including by Hakuun Yasutani, of Japanese militarism during the Empire of Japan period and afterwards. The book has in turn been criticized.
