Georgia (Georgian: საქართველო, Sakartvelo) is a country located in the Caucasus region of Eurasia, south of the Greater Caucasus mountain range, the traditional boundary of Europe. As such it is located in Asia.
Georgia is a secular unitary semi-presidential republic. It is currently a member of the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the World Trade Organization and the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation. It has submitted a membership application for the European Union in 2022[1], and has been promised access to NATO after a non-binding NATO membership referendum in 2008 with 77% voting in favor of joining.[2].
