Recipients of the Eagle Shield of the German Reich (Adlerschild des Deutschen Reiches); The Eagle Shield was a non-wearable award of the German Reich founded on 15 November 1922. In total, 65 known scholars, artists and entrepreneurs were honored with the award of the Eagle Shield until 1944. While the Reich Eagle (Reichsadler) adorns the front of the 108 mm large disc, which was created based on a model by the Munich sculptor and medalist Josef Wackerle, the text on the back is always worded differently and tailored to the respective awardee. The designer of the typeface was usually the Berlin graphic artist Karl-Tobias Schwab. The Adlerschild was made in Hermann Noack's well-known picture foundry in Berlin-Friedenau. Until the foundation of the German National Prize for Art and Science (Deutscher Nationalpreis für Kunst und Wissenschaft) in 1937, it was the highest German award in these fields. Even after the National Prize was established, which was limited to a few individuals, the Eagle Shield remained an exclusive and extremely prestigious, exceptional award.
