Exploration and expansion routes of Vikings.

Vinland is the area of coastal North America explored by Norse Vikings, named by Leif Eriksson about 1000 AD. The most detailed information about Viking visits to Vinland is contained in two Norse sagas, Saga of the Greenlanders and Erik the Red’s Saga.

In 1960, archaeological evidence of a Norse site in North America (outside Greenland) was found at L'Anse aux Meadows on the northern tip of Newfoundland, Canada.
