The South Today was a pro-communist publication issued from Clayton, Georgia and published by Lillian Smith.[1] She is best known for her miscegenationist novel, Strange Fruit. Lillian Smith was non-religious and came from a prominent and wealthy family. Her photos indicate she may have been of Jewish descent. Congressional investigations indicate Lillian Smith was affiliated with at least three communist front organizations.[2]
