Article could be renamed as with the term Galicia first thing comes in mind is the region on the north of Portugal. --MCMLXXXII 18:03, 6 August 2015 (CEST)

Maybe to you, but for me Galicia has always been in eastern Europe. The Portuguese county or province is tiny and as an Englishman I have to tell you that most people know nothing about it. Maybe it is better known in the Latin world? Cicero 21:34, 6 August 2015 (CEST)

Can't even compare the two regions. The European one is much more famous and had much more importance to Europe as the old Galician kingdom was not conquered by Muslims, its where they started to expand and clean the rest of Iberian Peninsula, Portugal (Portugaliza) started there. Its also home of worldwide famous Santiago de Compostela, and many other touristic and historical attractions, I doubt a person born in England know more about the one in Ukraine than the proper Galicia as Spain and Portugal are the main holiday destination for English people. Last but not least, Ukraine Galicia is not and was never a nation, with a language and culture but home of different ethnic people while Galicia have its own language (from where Portuguese language evolved) and culture and could be considered an European nation. --MCMLXXXII 23:52, 6 August 2015 (CEST)

Given your Portuguese background I suppose you would say that. It is a trifle partisan. However as a qualified historian I would have to disagree. Citing holidaymakers is not really a good show. Whilst I appreciate the history of the Iberian Peninsula the simple fact is that Galicia in Portugal etc., remains only a province of minor importance. This Galicia is however very famous, appears constantly in European history books, was a principality for centuries and, under the Austrian Empire, was a Kingdom. It was a major contentious part of the 1919 Peace Treaties. During WWII even the SS had a Galician Legion. Its European population composition is the result of the usual wars and I am certain the Ukrainians would not agree with your position here. Cicero 08:17, 7 August 2015 (CEST)

Why not set up a page titled Galicia (Iberia) or Galicia (Portugal)? Cicero 08:53, 7 August 2015 (CEST)
