War Court
====War Court====
On 1 May 1941, Röder was promoted to Major of the Reserves. On 22 June 1942, he was sentenced to one week of confinement to his quarters (''Stubenarrest''); however, the sentence handed down by the military court of the [[commandant]] of Greater Paris was suspended on probation on 24 June 1942 by the Military Commander in France Carl-Heinrich Rudolf Wilhelm von Stülpnagel. The troops' food supplies were inadequate, the task demanding and strenuous, the repeater stations were in operation 24 hours a day, and the night shifts lasted from 8 pm to 8 am. Röder had received an offer through an intermediary to buy 300 kg (3 hundredweight) of meat from a French farming family in the village of Fosses, southwest of Paris.  The money for itthe intended purchase, 1500 French francs, came from the canteen's cash box. A French woman, Eva Logghe, was responsible for the sale. The court-martial praised Major Röder's character and service, and understood that he was acting solely out of concern for his soldiers, not for any personal gain. Nevertheless, a minor penalty had to be imposed, as meat was a restricted food item and required written authorization from the military commander in France, and Röder did not have such authorization. This incident apparently did not weigh heavily on him, because he was later awarded the War Merit Cross, 1st Class, and was eventually promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.
