** Colonel Hauffe, the unforgettable first commander of the 330th Amphibious Pioneer (Engineer) Battalion (1970–1974) as well as enthusiastic and talented rower, had already lined up alongside Chancellor Konrad Adenauer at the Bundeswehr's first assembly roll call in 1955 in Andernach. He was a long-time member of the Association of German Pioneers, receiving the Gold Badge of Honor in 2000. As head of the ATV Special Staff at the Pioneer School from 1988 to 1992, he supported the board of the Waffenring Deutscher Pioniere (WDPi) as an advisor for the "Active Pioneer Troops."He was already active as an amateur historian during his military career, and many findings from his extensive research documents were incorporated into filmic contemporary documents.
