Sparta was one of the most important Ancient Greek city-states. It is famous for its austerity and fighting prowess.

"Laconophilia" is love or admiration of Sparta and of the Spartan culture or constitution. The term derives from Laconia, the region where the Spartans lived. Such admiration have influenced many later political philosophers and political constitutions, but such views and such influence are today less politically correct and less known than more politically correct admiration for and influences from the more democratic Ancient Athens.
