Spanish Sahara

Spanish Sahara or Rio de Oro was a Spanish colony and territory which lay on the north-west coast of Africa from the Wadi Dra'a river to Cape Blanco, and was 109,200 square miles. It is practically waterless. The population in 1937 was mainly nomadic Arabs, with less than 1000 European inhabitants plus a Spanish garrison. The capital was Villa Cisneros. In 1976 it was invaded and annexed by Morocco.[1]
