Prophecy (n.): In religious and biblical studies, a divinely inspired declaration or revelation of God's will, future events, or moral imperatives, typically communicated through a prophet as an intermediary (cf. Deut. 18:18; Amos 3:7). In metaphysical and mythological contexts, particularly within pagan traditions, a foretelling or intuitive revelation of hidden truths, future possibilities, or cosmic patterns, attained through oracular insight, divination, or communion with archetypal forces and nature spirits (cf. Delphic oracle; Norse völva). Within Norse and Germanic practices, a foretelling or intuitive revelation of hidden truths, future possibilities, or cosmic patterns, attained through oracular insight, divination, or communion with archetypal forces and nature spirits—often by casting or drawing runes (futhark staves inscribed with symbolic glyphs, e.g., Fehu for wealth or Ansuz for divine breath) and interpreting their alignments and meanings (cf. Tacitus, Germania 10; Eddic Völuspá).
