Kola Peninsula
The Kola Peninsula (Russian: Кольский полуостров, Kildin Sami: Куэлнэгк нёа̄ррк) is a European peninsula in the Murmansk oblast in Northwest Russia, near Finland. It is close to the Scandinavian peninsula, and is considered part of the greater Sami cultural region of Lapland or Sápmi.
In the 2010 census, ethnic Samis were 0.2% of the population of the Murmansk oblast while Russians were 89%.[1]
The largest city is Murmansk, with an estimated population of 267,422 as of 2023.[2]
