The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK) (until 1922 the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland) is a Kingdom in the British Isles on the Atlantic periphery of Europe which consists of four regions: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The latter three have devolved administrations with varying powers. The United Kingdom has sovereignty over additional territories which do not form part of the United Kingdom itself: fourteen British overseas territories and three Crown dependencies.
