Joel L. Baskin

Joel L. Baskin (September 27, 1885 - December 27, 1948)[1] was an attorney in Arlington, Virginia and the founder of American Shores Patrol. Baskin was the former Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan in Virginia. In the 1920s he headed the Klan’s offices in Washington DC.

Baskin was instrumental in influencing a young Klansman from West Virginia, Robert C. Byrd to enter politics.[2] Robert Byrd would become one of the most powerful and enduring Senators in Congress.

Joel Baskin was a former Methodist minister.
