Head of government
The head of government is the leader of the government of a sovereign state, who may or may not also be its head of state.
Today, the head of government such as a prime minister is often the highest official in the executive branch, while the head of state, if different, has more ceremonial roles. However, especially previously, the head of state such as a monarch could be the highest authority, with the prime minister or equivalent having no more power than the monarch allowed.
