(Redirected from Goldwater)
Barry Morris Goldwater (2 January 1909 – 29 May 1998) was a half-Jewish American politician, businessman, and author who was a five-term Senator from Arizona (1953–1965, 1969–1987) and the Republican Party nominee for president of the United States in 1964. In this election, he supported states' rights and opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, despite otherwise often supporting the Civil Rights Movement. Goldwater lost, but is despite this stated to have sparked a resurgence of the American conservative political movement in the 1960s. He became increasingly libertarian and had a substantial impact on the libertarian movement.
