Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (2 October 1869 – 30 January 1948), often known as Mahatma Gandhi, was an Indian lawyer, writer, and politician, who became the leader of the independence movement against the British colonial rule of India.
He has often been given an almost saint-like status, likely related to his method of nonviolent protest and by becoming a martyr due to his assassination. There numerous less politically correct aspects and controversies, such as his racial views, which have recently caused effects such as protesting against statues of Gandhi.
