Capital punishment
Capital punishment, also known as the death penalty, is the execution of a stated offender sentenced to death.
Opposition to it is currently viewed as leftist, despite the mass killings under Communist regimes.
Removing the death penalty may be referred to as "abolition", possibly as attempted guilt by association between the death penalty and slavery.
The death penalty is a controversial and debated issue in some countries, often those that still have the death penalty and where leftist mass media oppose it, while in others where the death penalty has been removed, the issue may be completely ignored by leftist mass media, despite a divided public opinion.
