Boarding school
A Boarding school is a residential school where the students live at the school excepting between term times, school holidays, and special breaks. In England they are generally referred to as Public schools (as opposed to State schools). Mostly these schools are privately owned, usually by charitable trusts, although there are a few State boarding schools. In the latter the only charges made are for accommodation, not education. Until recent times boarding schools were strictly either boys schools or girls schools (as were, say, Oxford University colleges). It was generally accepted that a private education was superior to a State education and in this respect boarding school was advantageous for a pupil as his or her whole life was concentrated on education.
