The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle is a collection of chronologies in Old English chronicling the history of the Anglo-Saxons. It is the single most important historical source for the period in England between the departure of the Romans and the decades following the Norman conquest of England.

History

The annals are thought to have been created during the Reign of Alfred the Great and are a insight in time between Roman departure and the Norman Conquest. Many copies were re-printed and updated with the last version still being used around 1154. The annals are one of the last remaining pieces of literature using Middle English.
