Andries Treurnicht
Andries Treurnicht was the leader of the Conservative Party of South Africa.
- What is the future of the white race in South Africa? What is your future and my future as a particular community, a white community in this country? Zimbabwe, the former Rhodesia of Mr. Ian Smith, is a footnote of history. In Mozambique, the Portuguese had to flee when the government turned Marxist. There is no corporate political self-determination for any white group or community in any African country. The whites of South West Africa were subject to experiments with power sharing and their freedom as a people was betrayed.
In South Africa the self-determination of the white man was cleverly taken away from him in the same of co-responsibility, joint decision-making, grand words and phrase, reconciliation, peace and cooperation, you name it, and to escape from the threat of revolution. That was done by persuading people to accept the new constitution, to accept a multi-racial parliament and to accept a mixed cabinet for whites, coloureds and Indians.
We of the Conservative Party say: There is no acceptable alternative to separate development. We say this constitution must be changed to restore white self-determination, a white parliament, and a white cabinet. ~ Dr. Andries Treurnicht, extract from his speech to the Conservative Party Conference. 29th March, 1985.
