The Alcázar of Toledo (Spanish: Alcázar de Toledo) is a stone fortification located in the highest part of Toledo, Spain.

History

Once used as a Roman palace, it was restored by Spanish kings. It was the location of a famous Nationalist victory during the Spanish Civil War, the siege of the fortress. The events of the Spanish Civil War at the Alcázar made the structure a symbol for Spanish nationalists. After the war, the damaged fortification was restored, between 1939 and 1957.
