Stephen Jay Gould

Stephen Jay Gould (September 10, 1941 - May 20, 2002) was a American Jewish paleontologist, evolutionary biologist and historian of science. During Gould's childhood he was heavily influenced by his father's Marxist ideas and by left-wing author Noam Chomsky. In the 1970s, Gould was involved with the left leaning organization, Science for the People. Gould died of lung cancer on May 20, 2002.
