Joseph Peter Kamp, born Joseph William Kamp[1] (May 3, 1900 - June 7, 1993), was an American political activist who was jailed in 1950 for four months for being in contempt of Congress stemming from a 1944 campaign activities investigation.[2] He was acquitted of a second contempt charge in relationship with the lobbying activities of the Constitutional Educational League.[3]

Life

Kamp was born 1900 in Yonkers, New York. His parents were German-born Joseph Peter Kamp, tailor, and Margaret, née Franz. The family arrived in America just before their son was born. He attended grammar school in Yonkers and spent a few months at Fordham Prep. Kamp was an editor and a contributor to The Awakener before the Second World War. He was founder of the American Union for Nationalist Spain.[4]

In the 1950s Kamp issued the publications Headlines and Fact-o-Gram. In the 1960s he served as a policy advisor to Liberty Lobby.

Family

Kamp was married with wife Mildred and a father. He was a great-uncle of German American actor Jon Voight through his mother, making him the great great uncle of actress Angelina Jolie. Kamp was associated with Alfred Kohlberg, Merwin K. Hart, Edward A. Rumely, J.B. Matthews, and William F. Buckley Jr.[12] He also associated with Elizabeth Dilling, author of The Red Network—A Who's Who and Handbook of Radicalism for Patriots (1934). Gerald L. K. Smith (1898–1976), clergyman and leader of the Christian Nationalist Crusade, called Kamp a "well-informed and fearless patriot."
