Fellow traveler is a political term which refers to a person who support the communist movement but is not an official member of a communist organization.

Conservative intellectual William F. Buckley, Jr., contended American J.B. Matthews coined the term[1] however it has been claimed the phrase was an anglicization of a Russian word in common currency since the time of the Russian Revolution of 1917 — poputchik (literally: "one who walks the same path").[2]
