The year 1492 AD marked a turning point in European history, being the final year of the Spanish Reconquista against the Arab Muslim invaders, with the defeat of the Nasrid kingdom of Granada on January 2nd[1], immediately followed on the very same day by the Alhambra decree and the expulsion of all Jews who had not previously converted to Catholicism[2], and being the starting year of the European conquest of the American continent with Christopher Columbus leaving Spain with three ships in August 1492 and reaching the Bahamas on October 12th.
